Save money and energy!
Did you know that washers and dryers account for as much as 25% of
your home’s electrical bill? And the average dryer costs
35 cents per load! With a few simple changes to your laundry
routine, you can save money and energy.
Wash
your clothes in cold water. For most items cold water cleans just as
well as hot. You may still want to wash sheets and greasy stains in hot
water to reduce allergens and help get the stains out. Washing
in cold water, rather than warm or hot, saves up to 85% of the energy
used by the washer.
Save energy with your dryer by hanging clothes to dry. Try a
clothesline or drying rack. Clotheslines are easy to install
indoors or outdoors, plus sheets and towels dried outdoors smell great. If
space is limited, try hanging clothes on hangers on the shower curtain
bar in the bathroom. To reduce wrinkles, dry clothes for two
minutes in the dryer before hanging to dry.
